Frequently Asked Questions:

7-Day Sewing Retreat

How am I booking my retreat?

After you submit the Book Form, you will receive a confirmation that your spot is reserved. Once all five spots are filled, you will receive an email with prepayment instructions. An official booking confirmation will follow once the prepayment is processed.

How am I going to pay? What is the booking and payment policy?

Payment is required in two instalments via bank transfer. A 50% prepayment is needed to confirm your booking, with the remaining 50% due six weeks before arrival. If preferred, both payments can be made together.

The reservation policy is partially refundable. The prepayment is non-refundable in the event of cancellations or no-shows. The second instalment will be fully refunded if the booking is cancelled at least six weeks prior to arrival.

What is included in the 7-Day Sewing Retreat?

The experience includes accommodation in a single room at the villa, airport transfers (Chania), a welcome dinner, city walk and two excursions (incl. transfers), a special sewing-themed event with lunch, and a closing event with dinner. Check out the Retreat Schedule for more information.

Where am I staying? What about catering?

Participants will stay in lovingly designed single rooms at our beautiful five-bedroom villa, overlooking the city. The villa functions as both accommodation and a sewing venue, providing plenty of space for group activities, as well as moments of solitude. The garden features a small pool and plenty of seating areas. Two large, fully equipped kitchens and three bathrooms are shared among the participants.

Some meals will be provided during the retreat, otherwise you are free to explore and enjoy Crete’s culinary highlights by yourself. A mini-market and a large supermarket are located a 15-minute walk away. There are also plenty of options for meal deliveries or same-day supermarket orders.

What equipment will be provided?

Each participant will have their own mechanical sewing machine to use throughout the sewing retreat. Additionally, a serger will be available for shared use. Since we all have preferences when it comes to sewing tools—scissors vs. rotary cutters, pins vs. clips, flexible rulers vs. tape measures—you are welcome to bring your own supplies. Essential items such as scissors, pins, tape measures, paper, a variety of patterns will be provided. The city also has several small haberdasheries and fabric shops for any last-minute purchases.

What do I need to bring?

  • Items for your sewing project(s): pattern, fabric, thread, haberdashery, etc.

  • Comfortable shoes (preferably athletic or hiking shoes) and a small backpack for excursions

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a swimming costume ☀️ (!)

  • Space in your suitcase for souvenirs and fabric stash additions

Do I have to make travel arrangements myself?

Yes. Flights to Crete or ferry transportation (from different ports in Greece) need to be arranged on your own. The closest airport is Chania (CHQ) and Souda port for marine arrivals (from Athens for example); transfer from these destinations is included in the retreat. Heraklion airport (HER) is reachable within a three-hour bus ride or other transfer option of your choice; a pickup from Chania central bus station is included in the retreat.

How can I extend my trip around the Sewing Retreat?

Athens is ideal for a sightseeing and culture mini-break, and a superb destination for textile shopping. You can plan a stop for before or after the retreat. If you feel like exploring more of Crete, the island offers plenty of opportunities as well to extend your holiday. SewCrete can provide tips and insights to make the most of your trip in Greece.
